Peace and Security

Since independence, the South Caucasus has faced constant and considerable security challenges. Home to three “frozen” conflicts, the region sits on geopolitical and civilizational fault lines – between NATO and the EU on the one hand and Russia’s Eurasian Union on the other, and at the juncture of three former empires -- Russia, Turkey and Iran. Against this backdrop the FES engages policymakers, experts and civil society actors in dialogue formats in order to support a better understanding of the challenges the countries and the region face, as well as to develop policy recommendations. The three countries respective relationships with the European Union within the framework of the Eastern Partnership Programme plays a crucial role.
