All three South Caucasus countries grapple with difficult social and economic circumstances, with high unemployment and poverty always being pressing concerns. After the 1990s witnessed the collapse of economic and social security structures, a wave of liberalization and deregulation followed which continue to be debated about today. The FES promotes through its work a more sustainable approach to policy that aims to create a more inclusive economic and social system. Free and modern trade unions, which are advocates of labor rights and sound labour relations, are a crucial part of this.
